How high should your table be?

The height of your massage table should fit you as the therapist. The right height ensures you can work comfortably, apply pressure effectively, and protect your posture.

✅ General Rule of Thumb

  • Your massage table should be set at about the level of your hip joint or wrist crease when your arms hang naturally at your sides.

  • This usually falls within the 24–34 inch (61–86 cm) range, depending on your height.

⚖️ Quick Self-Test

  1. Stand straight next to the table.

  2. Let your arms hang loosely.

  3. If the table height lines up with your wrist or just above your hips, you’re in the right spot.

🌿 Things That Affect Table Height

  • Your height: Taller therapists need higher tables, shorter therapists need lower ones.

  • Massage style:

    • Deep tissue/sports massage → lower table for better leverage.

    • Swedish/relaxation massage → slightly higher table for smoother strokes.

  • Client size: Heavier clients may require a lower table to help you use your body weight safely.

✅ Bottom Line

Your table should be set around hip or wrist level, with adjustments based on your height and massage style. Comfort is key—for both you and your client.
